Air is an essential element that each of us breathing humans and animals need to survive here on earth. Even plants and minerals need some sort of air to help them process their cycles of life. Oxygen at 21% is the normal composition of healthy air for us to breathe daily. For the air we breathe to be good for us, it is important to not have too many toxins present in the air. How can we really know?
Currently, when I research the toxins found in mothers’ and baby’s placentas, they are many. Industrial chemicals have been linked to premature birth, low birth weight, and birth defects. Researchers measured polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), mercury and lead, among other chemicals, in the women and in their babies’ umbilical cord blood. The study that exposed this information was published Nov. 1, 2016, in the print edition of Environmental Science and Technology.
The women in the study were participating in the Chemicals in Our Bodies Study (CIOB Study), also referred to as the Maternal and Infant Environmental Exposure Project.
Exposure to toxic chemicals for the mother and developing newborn have the risk of some or none of the following: associated with infertility and miscarriage, obstetric outcomes such as preterm birth and low birth weight, neurodevelopmental delay such as autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and adult and childhood cancer. Toxic environmental exposures that are endemic to their specific geographic areas include local water with safety advisories (eg, lead-contaminated water), mercury poisoning accumulated from fish consumption, local air quality levels from chemicals or personal care products, and patients’ proximity to power plants and fracking sites. Toxins would get into our bodies through our skin and through the air we breathe. It seems difficult to imagine how we can repurify our air that we breathe with so many toxic habits practiced by businesses. Regular people have habits too that add to the toxic load of our air quality. When people smoke, when people spray pesticides, when people fertilize grass or use weed killer, we are adding to the toxicity of our air. With the current out of control wild fires, there are toxins that are spewed into the air. These land onto the lakes and drainage systems. Pipes of the infrastructure for carrying water to homes can be damaged and have leaks or chemical buildup from the heat of the disaster. Cancer causing agents can be found in both the air and the water. Wildfires can contaminate drinking water with harmful chemicals. Here’s what to know | PBS News
How can we clean up the air we breathe, with so many factories around? There are companies who care about the environment. There is the DNR (Dept. of Natural Resources) which does its best to educate and protect natural environments. However, there are far too many companies who slip by, pumping chemicals into the waterways, onto the farm fields and lawns, and into the air as pollutants. Incinerators burn up toxic products and unintentionally or intentionally allow the chemicals to disperse into the air. Air and water can disperse the chemical products, and they can weaken the strength or chemicals, thus making them less toxic. However, toxins are toxins and they need to go somewhere until they are again neutral or back in their natural, non-injuring state.
In the meantime, what can we do to keep our children safe in utero and then born to this planet? One idea that aids the indoor experience, is an air purifier. It can improve indoor air quality (IAQ) through filtration or sterilization or a combination of both. Bad, unhealthy air quality is caused by the presence of
Harmful bacteria and viruses
Medium, small and fine airborne particles
Gases and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
Smoke
Mold and mold spores
Dust mites
Pet dander
Other allergens and irritating odors
Types of air filters
HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arresting)
Activated Carbon/Chemical Adsorption
Antimicrobial-treated
Sterilization works through
Antimicrobial technology
Ultraviolet Light, also called Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI)
Ultraviolet Light + Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO)
Ionization
Heat sterilization
Each technology has its strengths and weaknesses. Clearing the Air: The No-Doubt Buying Guide To Air Purifiers – HeatAndCool.com
This information is good to know. A person needs to set their own personal goals and address their clean air accordingly. A few ideas that come to my mind are using essential oils to breathe in a diffused state. Some essential oils can strengthen the immune system, some can purify the air and some can bind with chemicals so the toxins become neutralized. Oregano can be boiled to add the herb fragrance and anti-bacterial properties to the air. This can help a person’s immune system be strong. Frankincense helps the cells be strong and can help rebuild bone strength. Following are essential oils that benefit the air. Antibacterial – basil, cassia, cinnamon, clove, cypress, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, lemon, marjoram, melaleuca, myrrh, orange, oregano, peppermint, rosemary, tea tree, and thyme. Antiviral – basil, cassia, cinnamon, eucalyptus, frankincense, lemon, lemongrass, marjoram, Melaleuca, myrrh, oregano, and thyme. Antimicrobial – lavender, Melaleuca, geranium, lemon, eucalyptus, Ravensara, rosemary, cinnamon, thyme. Disinfect the Air in Your Home with These Natural Purification Strategies
Whatever a person’s goal is, to breathe in fresh air, there are a few solutions to help a person’s immune system fight against toxins that could make the body sick. Drinking plenty of fluids, keeps the kidneys flushed. Eating dandelion as a salad or as a tea, supports the liver which deals with the blood and oxygen levels in the body. Diffusing lemon into the air or lavender, can reduce inflammation and support the body’s defense system. Think of your solution and check how it helps create fresh air.
What about growing more trees? To experience air we breathe in a healthful way, it is wise to have plants and flowers in your house, so you can breathe in freshly created oxygen from your green plants in your home. They need our CO2, while our lungs want the oxygen they emit.
Chemical plants can re-evaluate their processes of producing chemicals. If the chemicals really have no real benefit for society, new policies could be set to stop producing products that send toxins into the air or water system. That is really difficult to set new rules if there is a loss of money for the company. That is the dilemma. Money systems and need or desire for more money seems to run our decisions, and profit. If there is no profit, then companies choose to ignore the fact that the chemicals could ultimately wreck society.
Therefore, I propose we must intentionally invite to earth, people who can actually influence world decisions that could be good for people all over the globe. Babies are our future to a better world. We are the teachers and influencers of our children. Let's create intention to have clean air to breathe.
The air we breathe can ultimately determine whether we are able to live a quality and enjoyable life here on earth.
